Dear community, episode 20 of the German-language “We love Formulare” podcast has been released. Since the podcast is in German, there is, as always, a short summary in English here.
This episode is all about the future of Adobe Document Services (ADS) in the On-Premises environment. Currently, ADS requires the SAP NetWeaver Java Stack, but maintenance for this stack will end at the end of 2027. Therefore, a successor is needed.
It’s important to note that only ADS is affected, not output via SAPscript and Smart Forms. These technologies run on the SAP NetWeaver ABAP Stack, which is supported until 2040.
The successor, ADS on HANA XSA, is scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2027. So, there’s a bit of time between the first quarter of 2027 and December 31, 2027, but not that much. Since everyone is familiar with IT projects, you can already guess that the transition can be challenging.
There are other alternatives, however. With extended maintenance, the SAP NetWeaver Java Stack should be usable until 2030. You’ll be able to migrate your ADS to SAP S/4HANA Java without extended maintenance. This combination should then be able to function without extended maintenance until 2030. I’m curious.
Ultimately, you realize that every company has to examine the various options based on its own situation and choose carefully. So, everything’s business as usual. First of all, it’s important to always keep up with the latest information on the topic.
With this in mind, happy printing
Michael
