Dear community, a picture is worth a thousand words. In my experience, this saying holds true in many cases. That’s why it’s helpful to visually represent the user interfaces in a concept when designing an application. This makes it easier to discuss different interface design options.
For precisely this purpose, I recently searched for a simple, free tool. In principle, you can work with PowerPoint or an alternative, but it doesn’t feel comfortable.
During my research, I found a tool I’ve enjoyed using for years: draw.io, which offers the ability to design simple user interfaces quickly and easily.
If you start with a blank document, you have to add additional shapes called “Mockups” (category “Software”). Typical user interface elements such as buttons, lists, graphics, etc. are then available. The shapes may be more geared towards mobile app development, but that’s not a problem. Even as an ABAP developer, you can use them for helpful visualization.
Ultimately, the basic idea is more important: Using all available means, before the actual development, to coordinate the user interfaces and the associated functions with the users as best as possible, so that everyone has a uniform idea that everyone can agree on.
Have fun designing
