AI has been with us for several years now. From the beginning, there was a lot of news about the topic. That’s understandable. Everyone wanted to know whether it was just a passing trend or if it would become a permanent part of our world. By now, we know how the story turned out.
Currently, I feel like there are only AI news stories. It’s as if the IT world consists of nothing else anymore.
Okay, security vulnerabilities are also frequently in the news. But those are often found by AI, and the corresponding exploits are even created by AI. If you ask nicely, AI will probably even provide a list of potential interesting attack targets. As I said, just ask nicely…
Is it really like that, or am I perceiving the IT world incorrectly right now?
Either way, IT has always been and remains a broad spectrum of topics for me. It’s not just AI. I have always loved that diversity, and it still drives me through my day.
You can probably see that from my blog: I do have my core focus on SAP ERP and software development with the ABAP programming language. But beyond that, I’m interested in pretty much all areas of computer science. The colorful variety has always fascinated and attracted me.
So how does my perception come about? Probably because AI has a major influence on many technological topics and is therefore so prominently featured in the news.
That said, I still have the impression that right now we are doing an incredible amount of foundational work related to AI, and AI plays only a limited role in everyday life outside the IT world (think “consumer products”). Let’s see if this impression is confirmed or disproved.
